1.     Last batch of Repaired and New Bare Staves

There are 12 repaired staves and 12 IVW staves ready at CERN to be sent to Comelec. All the repaired staves are qualified: 4 are BL, 6 L1/L2 and 2 ~L1/L2. The qualification cuts are given by the torsion values (<0.32 for BL and <0.50 for L1/L2). The IVWÕs must Joule tested in Genova. Danilo also reported that the survey made at CERN gave a very high value of the torsion angle (~1.5) for 4 IVW staves, all on C-side. He suspects that survey was wrong: the staves will be surveyed again in Genova.

Jocelyn will take the 24 staves to Comelec on Monday the 7th of August. If they will be ready on Thursday the 10th, Damien Tezier from CPPM will fetch them at Comelec and bring to CERN. He will then transport, the selected for loading in CPPM, to Marseilles. If the staves will be ready only on Friday the 11th the transport will be made by Logistics (organized by Eric/Sasha). In this last case the staves will appear at CERN the evening of the same day.

2.     Loaded staves: status of the QC and readiness of last loaded staves

A total of 71 staves with new pipe are loaded. 10 Staves have been loaded since the last ID week. 15 staves are still needed to complete the detector. Out of the 10 staves, one in Genova and one in Marseille need to be qualified, while the 2 loaded in Wuppertal still need to complete the qualification test.

3.     Bare Staves and Modules Available for Loading

Giovanni tried to have summary picture of the available modules in the 3 sites: see

http://www.ge.infn.it/ATLAS/SQTF/Minutes/Minutes_06-08-03_aux/06-08-03_GD_SQTF.pdf.

According to his evaluation there are (after the shipment made from Bonn, Dortmund and Siegen):

-       Genova: 12 BL + 46 L1/L2 (that include ~35 recoverable modules). The numbers from Genova need a confirm/check.

-       Marseilles: 40 BL + 27 L1/L2. Jean Claude gave a slightly different value: 38 BL + 32 L1/L2.

-       Wuppertal: 77 BL + 3 L1/L2. Charlie said that he has 84 modules of which 9 are in the hospital. About all are BL.

The result is that there are about 15.7 equivalent staves in number of modules. A previous counting gave a number near to 19 staves, but there were many modules to be assembled, repaired, etc that was in the count. A new counting is needed when Attilio will be back from Holiday (next week).

Loading activity will be stopped in CPPM next two weeks (resumed 21/8) and in Genova next 3 weeks (resumed 28/8). Wuppertal is ready to start again loading as soon as staves will become available.

We decided to distribute the repaired stave in number of 4 per site. The 4 staves with lower torsion will go to Wuppertal and are qualified for BL. The other 8 will be divided between Genova and Marseille. Last two (S4129 and S4134) have a torsion above the qualification limits for L1/L2 and will be used only in case of urgency if no better staves will be available from IVW at the time of loading.

4.     Readiness of Loaded staves for integration

a.     Pipe inserted staves

We went through the list of Pipe-Inserted staves. There are 17 qualified for integration into the half-shell. Of the remaining ones:

-       S4025: QC is OK – ship Bonn ¨ CERN

-       S4027: QC is OK (?) – ship Bonn ¨ CERN

-       S4035: QC is OK – ship Bonn ¨ CERN

-       S4048: replaced module, QC in CPPM: OK – ship CPPM ¨ CERN

-       S4096: has WB problem - repair

-       S4018: module fail – ship Bonn ¨ CPPM

-       S4067: module fail – ship Bonn ¨ CPPM

-       S4021: fail M5C – ship CERN ¨ CPPM

-       S4066: fail M6A, M5C – ship CERN ¨ CPPM

-       S4098: fail M0 – ship CERN ¨ CPPM

-       S6060: fail pipe, recuperate modules – ship CERN ¨ CPPM

-       S4078: MCC encapsulated – ship CERN ¨ Bonn

There are also several that have one or more modules with thermal performance above the limit of 2.5 ¼C/W. The list of the ones with the QC-0030 available is:

http://www.ge.infn.it/ATLAS/SQTF/PipeInsertion/QC30/PipeInsertionSummary.xls

From the list there are 3 that have to be considered more seriously before using in the half-shell:

-       S4043: DT/W = 2.55/3.01 (Mean/Max) – sub-judice

-       S4055: DT/W = 2.63/2.93 (Mean/Max) – sub-judice

-       S4096: DT/W = 1.63/2.80 (Mean/Max) – sub-judice

(note: the above list is different from the one that I proposed during the phone conference, I went through all the QC again. If objections please comment)

b.    New Pipe staves

Here the situation is more stable. Danilo is selecting staves with a ranking above 2000 for L2 integration. One stave has a module to be replaced:

-       S4122: fail M2A – ship CERN ¨ CPPM.

PDB should be on track with production status. A summary of PDB information is kept in the file that Giovanni updates periodically:

http://www.ge.infn.it/ATLAS/SQTF/StaveProduction/StaveRankingReport.xls

5.     Comparison of Thermal measurements between sites to cross-calibrate DT/W

Jean Claude had no news to report. He has already compared a stave measured in Genova and CPPM (S4075). He will do thermal test for the pipe-inserted staves that will be sent to CPPM for module replacement. For the moment no stave with new pipe made in Wuppertal is available in CPPM for comparison.

6. Update on Integration Issues (Danilo).

Danilo briefly reported the status of integration. Each L2 half-shell (Top/Bottom) has 6 bi-stave. Bi-stave cabling will be slowed down because of missing cables and pipe-inserted staves. It was decided to complete first one half-shell instead of going in parallel as was till now (to release space in SR1).

Integration is in advance of schedule of ~2 weeks.

Next SQTF phone conference will be held on Thursday 17th of August 2006 at 16:30.
