Brachytherapy advanced example User Requirements

General description



  • Brachytherapic sources are set inside a phantom.
  • The result of the simulation is the 3D-distribution of dose and the isodose curves in the phantom.
  • The user shall be able to choose interactively the brachytherapic source to simulate.
  • The user shall be able to visualize the experimental set-up.
  • The user shall be able to interface the application to CT.

    Specific requirements


    1. Geometry
  • U.R 1.1. The phantom consists in a box (side= 30cm);
  • U.R 1.2. The user shall be able to set brachytherapic sources inside the phantom;
  • U.R 1.3. The user shall be able to change the absorber material of the phantom ;
  • U.R 1.4. The user shall be able to define different composition tissues in the phantom with the help of a CT Interface;
  • U.R 1.5. The user shall be able to change the dimensions of the phantom;
  • U.R 1.6. The user shall be able to define the brachytherapic sources in terms of geometry, composition structure, primary particles (gamma) energy spectrum.

    2. Particles

  • U.R 2.1. The user shall be able to define:
  • electrons;
  • gamma;
  • positrons.

  •  

    3. Primary particles

  • U.R. 3.1. The user shall be able to define the energy spectrum of the gamma delivered by the radionuclide;
  • U.R. 3.2. The primary particles are delivered with random direction;
  • U.R. 3.3. The primary particles are generated in a random point of the radionuclide.

    4. Physical Processes
    U.R 4.1. The following physics processes are activated:
     

  • for electrons and positrons:
  • Ionisation;
  • Bremsstrahlung;
  • Multiple scattering;
  • Positron Annihilation; 
  • for gamma:
  • Rayleigh effect;
  • Photoelectric effect;
  • Compton scattering;
  • Pair production;

  • 5. Detector
  • U.R. 5.1. The Phantom is the detector;
  • U.R. 5.2.The information is the energy deposit due to primary and secondary particles.

  • 6. Tracking

  • U.R. 6.1. All the primary and secondary particles are tracked.

  • 7. Events

  • U.R. 7.1. The user shall be able to retrieve information about  the energy deposit due to the primary particle delivered by the source and all the secondary particles generated.

  • 8. Visualisation

  • U.R. 8.1. The user shall be able to visualize the experimental set-up;
  • U.R. 8.2.The user shall be able to visualize the tracks of the particles.

  • 9. GUI

  • U.R. 9.1. The user shall be able to change the phantom absorber material;
  • U.R. 9.2. The user shall be able to change the box dimensions;
  • U.R. 9.3. The user shall be able to switch the brachytherapic sources. 

  • 10. Analysis

  • U.R. 10.1. The user shall be able to store the information about the primary particles energy ;
  • U.R . 10.2. The user shall be able to store the information about the energy deposit in the phantom.
