MIND (Medical Imaging for Neurodegenerative Diseases) is a research project funded by INFN under the supervision of the 5th Scientific Commettee.

Its primary goal is the

development of computational tools to aid in the early assessment of neurodegenerative diseases by means of structural and functional image analysis.

MIND is a truly interdisciplinary project as its researchers come from a variety of backgrounds: physics, medicine and information technology. Its main activities involve:

  • Statistical analysis, VBM, Structure segmentation and classification
  • Alzheimer’s Disease / Fronto-Temporal Dementia are primary but not exclusive case studies
  • Clinical validation & access, Computer Aided Diagnostics
  • Multi-modal markers including neuropsychology, proteomic and oxidative stress measures
  • Towards higher field MRI (≥3T) and high quality PET images

The project started in 2012 and it has been approved for 2 years.
