How to reach Palazzo Ducale

Forgetting that Genova is reachable also by ship, this page will explain how car, train and plane travellers can go to the meeting site.
How to arrive to the city is left as an exercise to the reader.

One should look for Piazza De Ferrari (De Ferrari Square) which is the central square in the city. A big fountain in the very centre makes it recognizable. Everybody in Genova knows it, so that people can easily help in case of need.

A warning for car drivers:
it is definitely not easy to leave the car there !!!
Free parking is impossible and the few underground parking sites are often full.
So, the suggestion is to proceed directly to the hotel and reach the square walking or by bus or taxi.
De Ferrari Square
Palazzo Ducale In Piazza De Ferrari there is a clearly visible side entrance to Palazzo Ducale (Palace of the Doges), where the meeting will be held.
The main entrance is from Piazza Matteotti, which is just around the corner.

Look at this small map for a general view

City centre

By car By train By plane
Leave the motorway at the exit:
- Genova Ovest
(arriving from North or West via A7, A10, A26 motorways; in particular from Geneva)
- Genova Nervi
(arriving from South or East via A12 motorway; this is the first exit named Genova)

Then, in both cases, follow the direction signs for the City Centre. I'm afraid that for more details a map is needed.
Genova Porta Principe, usually shortened in Genova Principe and written Genova P.P., is the main station. There, people from North (Geneva) and West should get off the train.
To reach Piazza De Ferrari, bus #41 can be taken. Its headline is just a few meters from the station in front of a small park with the high C. Columbus Memorial.
Another important station is Genova Brignole. All the trains stopping there also stop at the Principe station, nevertheless people arriving from East or South (Rome) may want to get off the train there to save time.
In front of the station, buses #17 and #18 (don't mind if the numbers are slashed) will go directly to Piazza De Ferrari. For people exiting the station and facing the square, the bus must go rightward.
From the airport a shuttle service called Volabus provides a direct connection with Piazza De Ferrari. Usually the bus leaves the airport some 20 minutes after the plane landing. However this is not always true, so visit the airport Web page for a timetable.
Note
Bus tickets are to be purchased in tobacco shops (which in Italy are identified by a black panel with a big T) or in newspaper stalls. At the two railway stations there are also special stalls of the city transportation company (the AMT).
Tickets are not sold on board. They allow you to use all the city buses, including transfers, for 90 minutes. The tickets must be validated on board with a special machine located on the rear of the bus.
