ADDRESS: Piazza Banchi
The square in which the church is located, was the center of the economical activities
of the city. Its name, Piazza Banchi (Banks' Square), is a direct
evidence of the importance of the site.
The church was built in the XVI century, after an epidemy. A special type of popular contribution was requested, which determined the rather original architectural solution of the church standing over a group of commercial buildings. |

On a corner of the square, the Loggia dei Mercanti (Lodge of the Merchants) was built in the XVI century. Its elegant hall has been for long time the heart of the civic trading activity. It is still one of the most representative buildings of the city |
