NANO5 Project (New Architecture for NOvel experimental domains)
The team at INFN Genova has been involved in various projects of Geant4 physics
modelling and validation since the RD44 phase.
The activity in the RD44 phase and in the early years of Geant4 public
distribution was focused on hadronic physics: the Pion Absorption at Rest and
the Photon Evaporation models developed in RD44 not only have introduced new
physics capabilities in Geant4, but also demonstrated for the first time mixed
parameterized-theoretical models in Geant4 hadronic physics design.
The Geant4 team at INFN Genova launched the development of
Geant4 Low Energy Electromagnetic Physics, of
the first models for micro/nano dosimetry simulation
and of the first core of Geant4 models relevant to plasma physics.
The physics activity is currently pursued in the framework of the NANO5 Project.
A set of Geant4 applications have been developed at INFN Genova, in
collaboration with experimental groups, to demonstrate Geant4 capabilities in
various domains.
These applications were pioneering explorations at the time when they first
developed; most of them are now mature Geant4 application domains.
Simplified versions of some of these Geant4 applications have been distributed as Geant4 Advanced Examples.
The development of explorative Geant4 applications is now pursued in the framework of the NANO5 Project, where it supports the physics and kernel R&D.
