RADMON SIMULATION

Radiation Monitoring for LHC Experiments

The effect of radiation on installed equipment is a major concern for LHC experiments. Therefore it is necessary to monitor radiation fields, especially during early LHC commissioning, and to prepare appropriate shielding or other measures appropriate to high intensity running.

The RADMON project studies and develops semiconductors sensor for the radiation monitoring of the LHC experiments. An intensive experimental campaign has been carried out to select suitable sensors; further studies are in progress to optimise features like sensor packaging. A Geant4-based simulation has been developed in support of these studies.
