The Geant4 Workshop 2001 will be held at
INFN
Sezione di Genova, hosted by the Physics
Department of the University of Genova, on 2-6 July 2001.
The expected number of participants is 60 approximately. Participation
is by invitation; priority in the invitation will be given to Geant4 Collaborators
and members of associated Comparison Projects.
The Workshop is sponsored by INFN.
Registration
The participation fee is 300.000 Lire and shall be payed
cash
in
person at the time of registration on site.
The fee includes coffee/tea breaks and light lunches (Monday-Friday),
the workshop dinner and a mid-week guided tour of Genova Historic Centre
(the tickets for the Portello lift and the boat cruise must be purchased
separately, see Guided tours).
The tickets for the workshop dinner for companions can be purchased
at the time of the registration on 2 July.
The registration desk is located next to Aula Pancini (5th floor);
the main entrance of the building is on the 6th floor.
Sessions
The Workshop is organized in 2 plenary sessions in the morning (9-10.30,
11-12.30) and 2 sets of 5 parallel sessions in the afternoon (14-16, 16.30-18.30)
on Monday-Thursday, while Friday is devoted entirely to plenary sessions.
Two VGA projectors will be available throughout the conference; parallel
session rooms Pancini and 605 are equipped for presentations directly from
laptops, while in the other parallel sessions transparency projectors will
be available only.
Computing access
Access to the network will be provided n the auditorium (Room Pancini)
and in all the parallel session rooms. Only a limited number of workstations
will be available in Room 600; please
bring your own laptop.
Laptops must be configured to get an IP address
via DHCP and with outgoing mail server infnge/ge/infn.it.
Transparencies
The transparencies of the presentations will be available online. Submission
of transparencies in electronic format is warmly encouraged.

Bus tickets
Bus passes and tickets can be bought at most newspaper kiosks and tobacco
shops, as well as at the AMT desk near Brignole Station. They are valid
all over the city bus, train, funicular and lift network.
The weekly bus pass costs 15000 lire for unlimited circulation Monday-Sunday;
before usage, one must write name and date on it.
Single tickets cost 1500 lire and are valid 90 minutes.
Ask for "abbonamento settimanale AMT" (weekly pass) or "biglietto
dell'autobus" (single ticket).
Don't forget to stamp either the ticket or the pass on the bus at the
time of your first trip.

Centre
The tours are organized by the cultural association Genova
Insieme, with an English-speaking guide specialised in History of Art
at the University of Genova.
They are open to workshop participants and accompanying persons. Please
register for the tours at the workshop registration desk.
Tour 1: Genova
from the sky and from the sea

View of the city from Spianata Castelletto.

A short guided walk through Genova Historic Centre (Vico del Ferro, Piazza
S. Matteo, Soziglia, Campetto, Orefici, Banchi) down to the Ancient Port.

Tour of the port by boat.
Meeting point: Piazza Portello, Thursday
5 July, 6.30pm.
Duration of the tour: ~2 hours.
Cost: bus ticket for the Portello-Castelletto
lift (1500 lire, unless you purchased the weekly bus pass) + 10000 lire/person
for the boat cruise.
How to reach Piazza Portello: from Brignole Station, take bus 18 or
19, direction city centre; get out immediately after passing through a
tunnel.
Tour 2: Genova
from the Middle Ages to the Baroque
An extended itinerary through Genova Historic Centre, visiting some
of the most significant monuments across the centuries, including Porta
Soprana, Chiesa del Gesù, Palazzo Ducale, Santa Maria di Castello,
Cattedrale di San Lorenzo, Via Garibaldi.
Meeting point: Piazza Dante, near
Colombo's
house, Saturday 7 July, 9am.
Duration of the tour: ~3 hours.
Cost: 175.000 Lire total; individual
fee depending on the number of participants.
How to reach Piazza Dante: walking distance from Sauli, Astoria and
Verdi hotels; otherwise take any bus from Brignole Station, direction city
centre and get out in Via XX Settembre.
Social dinner
The social dinner will be held at Rina, a typical Genoese
restaurant located in Via Mura delle Grazie 3R, at the edge of the Historic
Centre, close to the Port. The location of the restaurant is indicated
on the map.

The cost of the dinner for accompanying persons is 80000 lire each;
it must be paid cash at the registration desk on 2 July.
