About uluru to alice-springs
Surely you know about Uluru tours, but not everyone understands just how complex and challenging the Australian outback is. I’m Paul Beames, and I’ve travelled, camped and driven across this land more times than I can count. Operators like Autopia run frequent tours to Uluru, but I’ll tell you now — this isn’t just a simple photo op. It’s more than a rock formation, it’s an journey that requires time, respect and a bit of planning. From Uluru trips from Melbourne, to classic Ayers Rock tours, there’s a trip to match every visitor.
Respecting Country and Culture
Before you lace up your boots, you need to know the land you’re visiting. Uluru is part of the protected area called Uluru-Kata Tjuta, jointly managed by Parks Australia and the Anangu Traditional Owners. Their stories, known as Tjukurpa (ancestral law), are in every crevice, pool and hill. Walking on this land means respecting traditions — do not climb, respecting sacred sites and hearing the voices of Traditional Owners. It’s not just about politeness, it’s central to understanding this land.
- Don’t climb Uluru (the climb closed in 2019)
- Stick to marked walking tracks
- Whenever possible, take a ranger or Anangu-led walk
- Always ask respectfully, but remember to listen first
