The Euclid Experiment

Euclid is an ESA mission that will be launched in 2021 from the Kourou base in the French Guyana. The purpose of the mission is to understand why the universe is experiencing an accelerated expansion and which is the source of this acceleration. For the moment, the generic name of “dark energy” is attributed to this source, but nothing is known of what it represents, yet it appears to constitute about 75% of the entire universe! Understanding the nature and role of dark energy better will help us to better understand the evolution of the universe in the past and in the future. The mission will also allow us to obtain information on the characteristics of other elusive components of our universe, dark matter and neutrinos.
