Geant4 Technology Transfer

The Geant4-INFN group is active in the technology transfer, especially related to applications of Geant4 to space science and to the bio-medical domain, in the fields of oncological radiotherapy, radio-diagnostics and radioprotection.

The Geant4-INFN group contributes to a R&D project, to study the exploitation of a distributed computing environment and of GRID technology, originally developed for LHC, for the simulation and data analysis in medical and space science applications.

Space applications
Most space probes have to operate for many years without the possibility of physical repair after launch. It is therefore essential to understand the behaviour of all components in the space  environment and in particular the effect of radiation on on-board electronics and detectors.

Medical applications
Geant4 extended set of physics models, handling both electromagnetic and hadronic interactions, can be used to address a wide variety of medical applications: from conventional photon-beam radiotherapy to brachytherapy, from hadron therapy to BNCT, as well as modern radio-diagnostic techniques, such as PET and PEM.
