The Laboratory of Health and Environmental Physics (FISA) was created in 1990 within the Physics Department of the University of Genova, since than in close collaboration with the Genoa Section of the INFN (Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare) nuclear instrumentation and methodologies for application to health and evironmental problems. During the first years FISA focussed on environmental radioactivity, such as the determination of the concentration of pure beta emitters or Rn-222 in environmental matrices. Later on the interest moved towards the use of ion beam analysis techniques (IBA) for the study of the atmospheric particulate and of cultural heritage. This research line distinguishes today FISA Laboratory and has received international appreciation. This web site describes past and present FISA activities, the available expertese, instrumentation and used methodologies.
