Non-invasive measurement of the iron overload in the human body.
The figure shows the signals of a patient before and after the spleenectomy. The x values are the positions of the magnetic field axis relative to the center of the human body torso. The spleen iron overload is the reason for the shift of the magnetization signal (June 20, 05) towards the negative values of the x-axis. The magnetization signal of the same patient, after the spleenectomy (September 6, 05), is symmetrical and approaches the one expected from his body depleted by the iron overload.
